I have attached 2 readings (2 PDF files).
YOU ARE REQUIRED TO READ THE 2 PDF READING FILE THOROUGHLY!!!!

To do this, explain: how and why this source is relevant to your chosen scenario; what information, sections, themes, or examples are the most relevant ones? Assessment 2: Annotated Bibliography
Page 1 of 3

Task: This is Assessment 2 out of 4. Before starting this Assessment first read the submitted Assessment 1.
Length: 1,000 words (Reference details are not included in the word limit of this assessment.)
Due date: 12 PM Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) 30th September 2021
NO PLAGIARISM WILL BE TOLERATED AS THIS ASSESSMENT WILL BE SUBMITTED IN
UNIVERSITY TURNITIN.
Task Overview:
An annotated bibliography is a bibliography with notes that summarise and explain the relevance of each bibliographic entry.
This assessment uses the 2 core readings (See pdf files attached) to move into the next important stage in writing a
persuasive essay, which is to apply relevant information from published academic literature to:
1. Build your understanding of the topic. (THE STUDENT’S CHOSEN TOPIC IS EXTREME CLIMATE EVENTS – BUSHFIES IN
AUSTRALIA)
2. Find credible evidence for supporting the ideas in your final essay.
The 2 core readings will build your knowledge of key sustainability concepts and provide approaches to developing
sustainable responses to concerns. We will also identify how these core readings relate to your chosen scenario and scope.
This assessment allows you to practise essential academic skills: reading, notetaking, summarising and writing an annotated
bibliography in the correct format.
Task details:
For each core reading:
• Write a heading that is the reading’s complete and correct APA reference (See the APA referencing guide on the
CDU library website). Present these in alphabetical order by the author’s surname.
• Write a 250-word summary paragraph that summarises and paraphrases the key ideas and/or arguments in the
core reading. (Use your own words; do not quote from the reading.)
• Write a 250-word commentary paragraph that explains the links between the core reading to your chosen
scenario and scope. To do this, explain: how and why this source is relevant to your chosen scenario; what
information, sections, themes, or examples are the most relevant ones? For example, are they relevant because
they help define or explain an aspect of your scenario or do, they provide solutions or that could be applied to
your scenario?
Suggestions to help you complete these tasks:
• Follow the task guidelines above, for writing an annotated bibliography on the appropriate structure.
• Follow correct referencing conventions to present each core reading’s details as the heading for that section of your
annotated bibliography. Use the most up-to-date guidelines for APA referencing style.
• Do not add a separate reference list at the end of your annotated bibliography. There should be no in-text citations
within an annotated bibliography.
• Remember that the sections of your annotated bibliography should be presented in alphabetical order according to
the surnames of the lead author of the core readings.
• Use only the 2 core readings provided.

Assessment 1: Learning Reflection

Length: 500 words (+/- 10%)
Submission: Microsoft Word (*.DOCX) file.
No referencing required- we want to know your own thinking on the questions below.
Task overview:
Each assessment in this unit represents a step in the process of completing an academic essay, so this
first assessment covers Step 1, reflecting on what you know about the topic and what aspect of the task
you will focus on.
This assessment will help you to consider what you know already about sustainability, and how it
impacts all of our lives.
You can write in first person (e.g., I, me, my) for this learning reflection as you are expected to reflect
and write on your own thoughts and views. However, you must use full sentences, correct paragraphing,
grammar, and punctuation.
Task details:
Respond to each question below in a paragraph of 150-200 words (all three questions will result in a total
word count of 500 words):
1. Describe some examples of sustainability in your life and/or profession.
2. What is it about the below scenario that interests you, and why?
Scenario:
• Extreme climate events
3. Scope your scenario and describe some of the different sustainability concerns that you think need to be
considered under each of the three dimensions (environmental, social, and economic).
Guidelines to help you complete this task:
• Read the questions carefully, stay on topic and stick to the word limit for each question and overall.
• Use Scoop-it to help inform your ideas. https://www.scoop.it/topic/extreme-climate-events
• Structure your response to each question in one complete paragraph.
• The reflective writing genre differs from essay writing.
• A learning reflection should give your original thoughts, knowledge and/or ideas on a topic with no
concern about being right or wrong.
• It should relate to the topic through meaningful, everyday life experience.
• Try to challenge yourself to reflect critically and analytically about sustainability in your answers.

Feedback to Learner
Hi
A very well-written learning reflection that considers each question in good depth. You’ve demonstrated a good understanding of
sustainability and how it applies to your life and essay topic. In your response to question three, you haven’t chosen a clear scope for your
scenario. Which climate event would you like to write about? Bushfires? Floods? Earthquakes? Choose a specific event in Australia to focus
on to narrow now the topic for your essay. I look forward to seeing how your ideas develop.
Thanks
Task 1
My motto is to live well and rationally. I believe that small deeds improve the environment and ourselves. Shop, play, relax at home,
at work, and on the road in the least environmentally hazardous and cost-effective way. I expect to make a significant contribution
to the sustainability of the environment, because I mostly use environmentally friendly straws in my daily activities and reusable
bags, all of which I believe make a significant contribution to environmental sustainability. Since I do not drive a car, I think that
using public transport contributes to environmental sustainability as well. These are a few small things I do to help, and regularly
learning new things lead to significant improvements, besides from my practice, they have been proven to work so well. Sustainable
development is critical to conserving natural resources and living productively. We need to make decisions today for years to come,
and we need to take steps that bring immediate short-term benefits.
Task 2
Over the years, extreme weather events have caused destruction globally. For my final essay, I have chosen the scenario extre me
climate events. Climatic and temperature extremes are affected by changes in climatic ecosystems, as well as invasions of socio-
economic and natural systems that are prevailing the world, we are living in. There are different factors that influence resilience, for
instance, the level of risk, also by the system and its ability to improve, implement the adaptation and response strategies, such as
emergency management, water efficiency. Climate change can create financial, social, and political problems that make it difficult
in making sure there are healthy lifestyles and promote economic growth. Extreme events such as heatwaves, cyclones, and
hailstorms have plagued some parts of Australia since time immemorial, and they have brought many changes all over the
environment. These factors interest me the most due to their ongoing role in sustainability and compromising our future generations.
Task 3
Most of the demanding situations of resilience to extreme weather events are that they have got all-natural, social, and economic
dimensions. The COVID-19 scenario, which suggests how climatic conditions were modified in 2020, is the exemplary instance I
can assume of, and duration of the environmental catastrophe which could stand up within the destiny. Floods, droughts,
earthquakes, and excessive temperatures are only some examples of natural disasters. The population boom is inflicting a scarcity
of land, which impacts the socio-economic improvement of the primary nations. Overpopulated nations have little effect on weather
events. Developed countries go through the extreme from weather disruption in phrases of internet losses, because of the better
expenses of human capital and offerings that affect social characteristics. These impacts, collectively, may be devastating for future
generations. However, I assume those are only some to consider about. However, there are numerous more, and resilience as an
entire, will assist us to circulate forward.
