Discussion: What you learned
Course Description Performance consultants consult whether they are working inside an organization serving other groups and functions of that organization or working outside as an external consultant. Consulting is more than hanging out a shingle and sharing advice. This course explores the process of defining consulting services, building partnerships, demonstrating added value, and showing that a systematic approach generates results. A large part of consultants work is displayed in presentations; therefore, this problem-based course will require students to build and deliver a variety of presentations highlighting their consulting expertise and building decision-maker buy-in for proposed plans.

Course Description
Performance consultants consult whether they are working inside an organization serving other
groups and functions of that organization or working outside as an external consultant.
Consulting is more than hanging out a shingle and sharing advice. This course explores the
process of defining consulting services, building partnerships, demonstrating added value, and
showing that a systematic approach generates results. A large part of consultants work is
displayed in presentations; therefore, this problem-based course will require students to build
and deliver a variety of presentations highlighting their consulting expertise and building
decision-maker buy-in for proposed plans.
Course Objectives
• Define your vision and values for your brand of performance consulting.
• Build a portfolio of products and services that you have already delivered.
• Present a “sales” presentation promoting your consulting services and explaining your
processes.
• Illustrate change adoption and success stories with both anecdotal and measurable data.
• Mock up a scorecard that graphically shows before and after data for a change initiative.
• Create a presentation that guides decision-makers through the selection of an invention or
set of interventions.
• Create a presentation that shares “bad news” data that shows results did not occur.
