Annotated Bibliography and Source Evaluation on Immigration
Thesis Statement: In my research paper, I am going to prove that the immigration issues and policies are
very important to America and the world. Even a slight change of the policies may cause the immigration
population to increase or decrease significantly, and thus influence the economy, politics and society in
United States. The possible sources are scholarly analysis of current American society related to
immigration.
Annotated Bibliography
Grigorenko, Elena L. U.s. Immigration and Education: Cultural and Policy Issues Across the Lifespan. ,
2013. Print. This source helps us to both understand and craft policies to aid the successful acculturation
of immigrants in the US. It is an excellent road map for researchers in immigration and education, as well
as educational and developmental psychologists, sociologists, economists, and public policy makers. An
immigrant from Russia, Dr. Grigorenko weaves her first-hand experiences and strategies into this unique
text. It encompasses all available research on immigration and acculturation, from new information on
bilingual education to studies of low-skill versus high-skill workers.

evaluates that the increasing of immigrants coming into America is detrimental for the environment
through environmental philosophy, since more people generally means more exhaustions of resources
and lands as well as more pollutions. In addition to the negative effect to the environment, the
government also has to spend more money on fighting the pollutions caused by increasing immigrants.
This source is a popular source found in library database. This is a credible source, because the author is
a professor at Colorado State University and has a PhD in environmental philosophy. It talks about the
negative effect brought by immigrations through environmental aspect, and argues that the government

will have to spend a lot more money to solve the environmental problems caused by the growth of
population. This source provides a counter-argument for my research paper.

emphasized that the immigrants brought in more labor supplies, thus enhanced the capitalistic
productivity. America as the receiving country will result in an increase of labor force, and especially for
the illegal immigrants who are more willing to take the secondary jobs. This increase of labor force will
stimulate the economy. This is a reliable and detailed scholarly source found in library database, and it
has been peer reviewed. This source proves my thesis statement by analyzing how the immigration
brought in the labor forces, and thus stimulates the economic prosperity in America.
Borjas, George J. Issues in the Economics of Immigration. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2000.
Internet resource. The United States is now admitting nearly one million legal immigrants per year, while
the flow of illegal aliens into the country continues to increase steadily. The debate over immigration
policy has typically focused on three fundamental questions: How do immigrants perform economically
relative to others? What effects do immigrants have on the employment opportunities of other workers?
What kind of immigration policy is most beneficial to the host country? This authoritative volume
represents a move beyond purely descriptive assessments of labor market consequences toward a more
fully developed analysis of economic impacts across the social spectrum. Exploring the broader
repercussions of immigration on education, welfare, Social Security, and crime, as well as the labor
market, these papers assess dimensions not yet taken into account by traditional cost-benefit
calculations. This source offers new insights into the kinds of economic opportunities and outcomes that
immigrant populations might expect for themselves and future generations.

Carey, Galen. “Immigration And The Economy: Beyond The Zero-Sum Game.” Review Of Faith &
International Affairs 9.1 (2011): 5-9. Academic Search Complete. This source states that people tend to
stay in their own home countries, even though they may be affected by war, poverty and prosecutions in
their home country. A decision of emigrations is rarely made, because of the fear of leaving their familiar
homes and unpredictable future in another foreign country. However, people who decided to emigrate
to another unfamiliar country to pursue their dreams show uncommon courage and unyielding spirit,
which are crucial for them to succeed in their adopted country. Besides, the source also states that the
immigrations would likely to open up new jobs and increase the wages for native-born Americans. This
source is a scholarly source found in library database, and it has been peer reviewed. This source is
helpful in analyzing why the immigrants tend to do well in America. It supports my thesis by stating that
the courage and spirits the immigrants possess will likely to ensure their individual success in adopted
country, and create economic miracles by starting their own businesses
